H1N1 Swine Flu & HerbalScience's Proprietary Elderbery Extract

Hello, my name is Monica Bray.

I am a graduate of the University of Michigan. My career background includes work in the pharmaceutical industry on H1N1 Influenza and in molecular diagnostics. Currently, I work with HerbalScience Group in Naples, Florida as a Biologist in the research and development group.

Welcome to HerbalScience’s online research lab, where today I would like to explain exactly how HerbalScience’s proprietary Elderberry extract works to defeat the H1N1 Influenza virus.

The following presentation is only few minutes, so let me get the lights and start the presentation…

H1n1 / Swine Flu Infection Cycle

This is a microscopic view of the normal infection cycle of the H1N1 influenza virus.

The H1N1 influenza virus has a surface hemagglutinin protein that mediates attachment to cell surface receptors and is internalized into a target cell using a mechanism that is similar to the process used by cells to take up nutrients during the regular cell life cycle.

New influenza virus particles are made inside the infected cell and then bud off from the surface of the cell to infect new cells.  This is the point where some antiviral pharmaceuticals interrupt the viral life cycle and prevent the release of newly formed viral particles – but this does not prevent infection of new cells.
